Plant Saucer Alternative
Whether you use plastic plant saucers for indoor or outdoor use, it’s time to find an alternative. We’re long overdue for finding a more sustainable and ecological way to protect our surfaces. There is no good way of disposing of them when they break or get ugly.
One good option is to go to your local Goodwill or thrift store and buy ceramic plates that can be repurposed into plant saucers. Image your plants sitting on a beautiful antique plate that someone was throwing away, AND you can throw it in the dishwasher when it gets dirty! If you’re concerned that the plate won’t hold enough of the run off water, no worries, because having your plants sit in water is not healthy for the plant. It causes the roots to rot from overwatering.
If antique plates aren’t to your liking, or you insist on buying new, try buying the more ecofriendly terra cotta saucers. You can even reuse, recycle and repurpose old ones that you find a Goodwill, thrift stores or garage sales.
